I think it's fair to say that if "Keeping Up with the Steins" tanks at the box office, it won't be Jeremy Piven's publicist's fault. Forget "hugging it out"--Piven's been Jewing it up all month.
In the last few weeks--from the cover of last month's Heeb "Money Issue" to this article in the Forward and being one of two featured celebrities in the premiere "issue" of JDate's new magazine, JMag--JP's been everywhere but Israel in promotion of "Steins."
Plus, he and his publicity team are not morons--they're totally playing the "he's a single Jew, and he might want to date you" angle, especially in the JDate story, which dangles juicy tidbits that illustrate that his expectations are similar to those of any non-Entourage starring Jewish male...witness this exchange in the JMag article, which is an interview with the CEO of Spark Networks (DS):
DS: How would you describe your ideal woman? What is she like?
JP: Um, maybe that is my problem. I do have an ideal woman. Someone open hearted and loving, self-empowered, smart, funny, sexy, beautiful. All of those things would be fantastic. Maybe like the body of Jessica Alba, the brain capacity of Stephen Hawking… Maybe that’s why I’m still single.
Gee, ya think? A woman with the body of Jessica Alba and the brain capacity of Stephen Hawking. Only, I suspect that last part's negotiable.
People's Exhibit B, this excerpt from the Forward article:
And, perhaps much to the thrill of many a single Jewish woman, Piven hopes for the opportunity to be himself within the context of a relationship. "I've put a lot of time and energy into my career, and I'm more equipped now for a relationship than I've ever been.
"I haven't committed to my bachelor lifestyle — there's nothing premeditated about it," he said, ruminating on being 40 and single. "People ask me, 'Why aren't you married?' As my 5-year-old niece, Lily Rose, likes to say to my mother, 'All in good time, Nana.' So apparently, she's the smartest one in the family."
You know, there's some small comfort in the fact that no matter how successful you are, the world still pressures you to get married. In the JMag article, the CEO of Spark tries to convince le Piven that he would do really well on JDate (which we all know is a hundred percent true). "Really?" says Piven. "So I guess it’s up to you to find me a wife. No pressure though." "Deal," says DS at the end of the article. "I just want an invite to the wedding if we do." "You’re there, my friend," Piven promises.
Um, hello, Jeremy...better check with this fictional bride-to-be of yours. Because if she's me, we're going to have to have a conversation about this having-an-online-dating-CEO-at-my-wedding-thing...but Lily Rose is right. All in good time.
"Maybe like the body of Jessica Alba, the brain capacity of Stephen Hawking…" I know a few female physicists, and one often does not come with the other. And typically the other qualifiers would be there in a limited or more haphazard fashion. We all assume he's joking, or else he'd be stalking the halls of CERN. Cheers, 'VJ'

Jeremy was in my favorite movie and I love "Entourage." I like the press. I can't imagine a celeb on J-Date, but he really has fun in the interview.

Speaking of Jeremy Piven ... what is your obsession with the guy?

Hmm ... that might have come across as kinda obnoxious. I meant it in the sense of do you personally know him? Are you just a huge fan? Some other connection?

Hi,
Is "farbeit" yiddish? I always thought it was 3 english words: far, be & it. What does it mean in yiddish? I couldn't find in in the english dictionary.
Have a great weekend!
