Who cares what the Pope, rabbis, and other folk in kippot think? I want my HP6! Wonder how long it will take to get here...

Little Wolf

So they are complaining that it is bad, yet it promotes Christianity, in a form, and contains repeated celebrations of Christmas and Easter. (And the celebration of Halloween was brought to parts of Europe that didn't celebrate Samhein byt he Catholic Church making in the holiday of All Hallows Eve/All Saints Day.) I really just don't get it.

I mean really they are just books for heaven's sake.

Chutzpah

Just wondering Esther, which do you think was J.K. Rowling's more difficult accomplishment: writing a series of internationally acclaimed best-sellers which were made into movies or marrying the hot young dermatologist?

Rivster

I actually think that HP contains many positive moral and Jewish lessons and as a rabbi, encourage readers of all ages to enjoy the tale contained within its pages.

Take that, Pope B.

I miss Pope JP...

I agree with Amy on this one. I first found it odd that wizards would celebrate Christmas. But, most Brits (and many Americans) tend to view Christmas as a secular holiday. I doubt Rowling gave much thought to religious implications at all.
I am certain this is worth the Pope's time, given that there aren't many problems in the world.

Popes are so not fun. Maybe christians would look more reasonable if they didn't go around condemning things like HP and Dungeons and Dragons. At least when they house arrested Gallileo and condemned Darwin, you felt like they were messing with real issues.

The pope was miffed because Amazon claimed he hadn't, in fact, reserved a copy and he'd therefore have to wait until the cardinals finished the one official Vatican copy. And you know how long that would take.
