I'm glad you're happy with how it turned out. That's what really matters. That, and that the dress still fits.

I never had a John Hughes-style prom, either. My school was small, so we had a junior/senior prom so that there would be enough people there to make it worthwhile. Junior year, I invited a boy from camp/USY; I'd had a crush on him in the past but was over it, and we'd stayed close friends although we hadn't seen each other in 2 years. Except that when he arrived, we realized we'd grown apart without knowing it, and we had almost nothing to say to each other. He spent the entire prom hitting on my (non-Jewish) friend, whose "just-friends" date wanted to be more than just friends, and spent the evening throwing daggers at my date and me.

Senior year...well, that's a whole other story. Suffice it to say that I'm the only person I know who was ever grounded for turning down a prom date.

I never got to go to prom and I don't think I missed much, frankly. Too much pressure and too much money (at least at our school). Nice to read about your lovely experience, though!
