Dick Sargent? Dick York?

With the Will Ferrell/Nicole Kidman movie adaptation of Bewitched about to hit theaters nationwide, the original TV show (which has been running on Nick at Nite's TVLand for a while now) has re-emerged into the national consciousness.

Almost everyone knows that the role of Darrin Stephens was played first by Dick York, and then taken over by Dick Sargent. But few people know why...now TV Guide's Televisionary provides the answer.

The TVLand site itself is part of the promotional blitz for the movie, now featuring interviews with Ferrell, Kidman, and the actors who played Tabitha, Adam and Dr. Bombay. One most unexpected feature is "Bewitched karaoke," which (witch?) provides viewers with the chance to sing along with the unsung lyrics of the Bewitched theme song by following the bouncing broom. The Bewitched theme song (along with unsung theme songs from The Dick Van Dyke Show, I Dream of Jeannie and Bonanza) is available here.

This is excellent. I have always wondered about the switch and will have one less thing on my "I wonder why...?" list now - yay!

Dick Sargent? Dick York? Sargent York?
