CELEBRITY SMACKDOWN: "Boy Toy" vs. "Boy George"

Gay pop star BOY GEORGE has slammed MADONNA for embracing Kabbalah, the mystical offshoot of Judaism which preaches homosexuality is a disease. He fumes, "I have a problem with Madonna's devotion to Kabbalah, because I watched a documentary that said that Kabbalah believes that gay people are diseased and can be cured. "She's such a hypocrite. This is the woman who has embraced homosexuality and used it to her advantage."

Dear Madge,

It's been a while since I've written, but I totally had to tell you that I saw Boy George the other day and he told me that he's in a fight with you. (I know! That's so sixth grade of him!) But apparently, he saw some documentary about Kabbalah that said that gay people could be cured.

Now, you're the expert in special K, so tell me if it's true. Then, I'll slip Boy a note during has-beens homeroom and see if he agrees to forgive you. (I'm gonna write "do you forgive Madonna? check one box," and then I'll have one box for "YES" and one box for "NO" and we'll see what he checks and then we'll see if you're friends again or if he's still in a fight with you, okay?)

Boy George's assumption that since "Special K" is anti-gay that Esther Madge must no longer support homosexuality is like assuming all Christians must hate gays or all Mormons support George Bush (ask Ken Jennings about that one).

That being said, there are a great many religions (and so-called political activist groups) that as of late have been pounding the gay bashing drum - complete with a right-wing group attacking the AARP, claiming they "support gay marriage", solely to try to paint them as "un-American" to the masses.

As a result, I scratch my head a bit over Boy George lashing out. After all, didn't he see the irony - or was he bothered - when she was openly Catholic, yet was also supportive of gays? Why is it any different? Why is she now "using" homosexuality because she's following another (possibly) anti-homosexual religion?

Is "Special K" anti-gay? I don't know. It'd be amusing if it were, considering how many liberal entertainers have joined the cult in the last couple of years.

And, that's the thing. I think it's a cult, and like so many cults, people who become turned on by it are blind to what's REALLY going on with the "religion". I think Esther Madge is so blinded by the aspects of Kabbalah that appeal to her that she doesn't see the whole picture. I think she's been "blinded by the light", and if/when she ever wakes up and sees everything, she's probably going to feel like a real fool.

I agree with you about the cultishness, though. Let's just appreciate the good to come out of this fight: a return to my "Letters to Madonna" series...

Spring, honey, Madonna used that whole "I like Gays and I'm Catholic" thing as a way to express her oppression.

In recent years, she came across as a woman who has figured it out...and who CHOSE to go with Kabbalah after her soul searching (Ray of Light). Remember?

So, actually, someone was sleeping during Kabbalah classes...or, forgot to stamp out that little homophobe tidbit in her created religion.

Because, let's face it, you're not huge until you're a Christ. TOM CRUISE!
